Ryan Christopher (b.1998, UK) is an artist working through sculpture, sound and video to consider material relations within elliptical narratives. His practice is a process of amalgamation which draws on the formal and indexical properties of found materials. Fragments of Christian thought, ancient poetry, philosophy and early North and East African Christian history are spatially organised into concise narratives, often referencing historical figures. These compositions describe experiences of absence, providence, divine self-disclosure and the natural world, involving gestures that are slight and considered.
An inquiry into iterations of paradox permeates both the materials used, such as blinds, plaster and religious texts, and the notions explored within the work. Through connections between sculptural descriptions and inquiries, the viewer is directed to an inward space in which images, narratives and thoughts can merge.
